The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had accomplished and taught. |
He said to them: "Come away to a desert place all by yourselves and rest a while. "For many were coming and going, and they had no good time even to eat. |
And they went away in the ship to a desert place in single file. |
Now many saw them going away and understood, and they hurried there on foot together from all the towns and arrived in front of them. |
Having descended, he recognised a great crowd; and he had pity on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. |
And already the great hour was coming into existence, his students approached him and said: "This is a desert place, and the hour is now very great; |
release them so that they may depart and encircle the fields and markets and buy for themselves to eat." |
But he revealed to them saying: "You give yourselves to eat." And they asked him: "Are we to go and buy 200 denarii of bread, and cause them to eat?" |
He said to them: "How many loaves have you? Go and observe and understand." And when they understood, they said: "5, and 2 fish." |
And he ordered them all to lie down in Symposiums - 2 by 2 - over the green grass. |
And they lay down in Garden Parties corresponding to 100s' and corresponding to 50s'. |
Taking the 5 loaves and the 2 fish, he looked up to heaven, spoke well and broke into pieces the loaves, and caused his students to set before them; and the 2 fish assigned to the whole. |
And all ate and were content and took up 12 caskets fulfilled of broken pieces and of the fish. |
And those who had eaten: 5000 men. |
